srebrenica - friendly alien

The project investigates the transformation of geographical places through historical events, material and immaterial traces, and social attributions. Srebrenica becomes the point of departure for a spatial investigation in which territory is defined not only by its physical characteristics, but also by events, perceptions, and their continuing effects over time. The Other Presence describes a deliberately foreign spatial intervention that resists national, cultural, and formal classifications without negating the historical specificity of the place. The specification, definition, and occupation of a place are investigated as an experimental spatial strategy through which new relationships between territory, perception, and social reality may emerge. Landscape is understood not as an immutable geographical background, but as a spatial configuration in which historical events, present perceptions, and future meanings become simultaneously operative. Time appears as a constitutive dimension of the place, whose spatial identity remains subject to continuous transformation. The project thus investigates the possibility of spatial rearticulation without overwriting existing layers of meaning. Otherness becomes an operative element that questions established spatial attributions and opens new forms of perception.
