The project investigates a place whose spatial identity is shaped by the relationship between geographical location, cosmic observation, and cultural layers of time. The particular astronomical observation conditions of the Višnjan region establish a connection to cosmic space, while the historical traces of the Istrian cultural landscape refer to the continuous transformation of human conceptions of space. The spatial conception originates from a newly constructed octagonal foundation that refers to the historical typology of the mikveh and supports Bernd Fasching’s sculpture A More Complex Reality. The religious significance of ritual water is not reconstructed but subjected to a new interpretation. Cultural and religious conceptions of space emerge as mutable orders whose meanings may undergo metamorphosis over time. The octagon is simultaneously understood as an anticipated fragment. What is created today as a deliberate spatial intervention may, centuries from now, become archaeological evidence of a former reality. Time thus appears not as a linear sequence of past, present, and future, but as a constitutive dimension of spatial existence. The explosion-like cloud formation rising above the sea in the background introduces a possible dystopian reading of the landscape. Between cosmic observation, cultural memory, and the imagination of a fragile future, a spatial constellation emerges in which the contradictions of different realities overlap and find spatial articulation.
